McKenzie Friend support with the Divorce
Coach
The Divorce Coach provides the McKenzie Friend support service.
We act as your supporter and go into court with you. This is
where you want to represent yourself in court, as a ‘litigant
in person’
and you have the right to take a supporter into court with you.
Such a person is called a McKenzie Friend – so called after the
case of McKenzie v McKenzie
(1970).
The Divorce Coach keeps you focused on the facts, helps you
present your case in the most effective way and helps you feel
less alone.
Firstly, we talk on the telephone and set up an initial
meeting. Secondly, we take you on a tour of a real courtroom
explaining the process and procedures of the court. Thirdly, we
prepare you for the courtroom experience and lastly, attend the
court hearing with you. Specifically we:-
-
Sit beside you in court.
-
Take notes.
-
Suggest questions for you to ask.
-
Keep you focused on your case and what you need to
say.
-
Be another pair of eyes and ears for
you.
-
Help you stay unemotional and give factual
responses to lawyers and the judge.
-
Help you ask questions simply
and clearly so they are understood
quickly.
For this service we charge from £347, excluding travel
expenses.
If you wish, we can also attend as your McKenzie Friend if you
appear in post-divorce court
hearings.
The Divorce Coach is not permitted to speak to any
other person in the court, only
you.
